Financing of Imperial County In-Home Asthma Services

Imperial County has had some of the highest rates of pediatric asthma hospitalizations and emergency department visits in the State of California. The county also has a history of addressing asthma management through grant-funded community health worker programs that provide in-home asthma services.

EPA Region 9 funded the development of a financing strategy entitled Roadmap for Financing In-Home Asthma Care in Imperial County for in-home asthma service providers to be reimbursed by insurance companies. Implementing such a strategy would result in a steady stream of funding toward continuity of their essential services. The financing strategy was informed by analyzing input from a variety of stakeholders who attended the June 6, 2016 Beyond Grants: Imperial County Asthma Finance Workshop.
