This map indicates places where US-Mexico Border Program is currently supporting and has funded border projects in the border region of Texas, New Mexico, Chihuahua, Coahuila, Nuevo Leon and Tamaulipas. Project locations are displayed in layers represented under each goal and/or fundamental strategy. You can find additional details regarding the projects highlighted on the map in the Border 2020 accomplishment reports.
The map will be updated periodically to include newly-completed or newly-funded projects.
About the U.S-Mexico Border Program
The mission of the U.S-Mexico Border Program is to protect the environment and public health in the U.S.-Mexico border region, consistent with the principles of sustainable development. Sustainable development under the Border Program is defined as “conservation-oriented social and economic development that emphasizes the protection and sustainable use of resources while addressing both current and future needs and present and future impacts of human actions.”
About Projects Funded Under the Border 2020 Program
The Border 2020 Program is the latest environmental program implemented under the 1983 La Paz Agreement between the United States and Mexico. Border 2020 has identified five long-term goals with specific objectives to address the most serious environmental and environmentally-related public health challenges in the border region. Some objectives and sub-objectives targeted by these strategic goals are broad and are expected to serve as guidance in the development of biennial action plans. EPA, through a collaborative agreement with the North American Development Bank (NADB) Exit, has funded projects through various requests for proposal since the inception of the Border 2020 Program in 2012.
