WaterSense issued an NOI in 2011 to develop version 1.1 of the specification to respond to multiple inquiries from builders seeking the label for multi-family residential buildings. Technical reviews of these projects suggested that most or all of the criteria for WaterSense labeled new homes could be applied to and met by these homes. In 2018, WaterSense issued an NOI to develop version 2.0 of the specification to address lessons learned in implementing the program and the evolving market for home building.
