In October 2000, the Association of Metropolitan Sewerage Agencies (AMSA) began a voluntary survey to determine current levels of dioxin-like compounds in biosolids. These data were collected to assist EPA in developing an environmentally sound and technically correct dioxin limit for land-applied biosolids, and to determine whether dioxin concentrations in biosolids have decreased since the 1994/1995 AMSA survey. The survey was open to all publicly owned treatment works (POTWs) in the U.S.
