Fact Sheet: Use of Landfilling for Biosolids Management

Biosolids landfilling options include disposal in a monofill (a landfill that accepts only wastewater treatment plant biosolids), or in a co-disposal landfill (a landfill that combines biosolids with municipal solid waste (MSW)). Disposal in a monofill is regulared under 40 CFR Part 503 while disposal in MSW landfill is regulated under 40 CFR Part 258.
