2020 Voluntary Hangtag Approvals for Wood-Burning Devices

The voluntary hangtag program for wood-burning devices is designed to provide an incentive to manufacturers to meet Federal 2020 standards ahead of time, therefore accelerating emission reductions and protecting public health sooner than is required. The models are tested by an EPA-approved laboratory, as specified in the 2015 New Source Performance Standards for Residential Wood Heaters, and EPA verifies that the test results meet the required levels.

The list of EPA approved hangtags is intended to provide consumers information about the cleanest residential wood heaters on the market. The link has a list of the current manufacturers and model types that have been approved to use the 2020 voluntary hangtags. This list is updated regularly as new models are approved.

Please note that not all EPA certified wood stoves and hydronic heaters meet the eligibility for the 2020 hangtags.
