Clean Air Act Permitting in Arizona

EPA’s Pacific Southwest (Region 9) implements and enforces federal environmental laws in Arizona, California, Hawaii, Nevada, the Pacific Islands, and 148 Tribal Nations.

Clean Air Act permitting in Arizona is the shared responsibility of one state and three county agencies, as well as EPA Region 9. EPA Region 9 is responsible for processing permits on most tribal lands in Arizona. The Navajo Nation and the Gila River Indian Community also issue some types of permits. Tribal Air Permitting in Arizona

EPA Region 9 is responsible for issuing permits on Tribal Lands in Arizona. Of the many tribes in Arizona, Navajo Nation and the Gila River Indian Community have authority to implement portions of the permitting programs under the Clean Air Act. The table below describes the various authorities.
