The JM Shafer Generating Station is a gas-fired, cogeneration power plant, which produces up to 272 megawatt hours (MWh) of instantaneous peak power generating capacity. Process wastewater discharges from the power plant include water supply treatment, boiler and cooling tower blowdown, and miscellaneous wastewaters. The JM Shafer Generating Station is authorized under the National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System draft permit number CO-PF00107 to discharge these wastewaters to the City of Fort Lupton publicly operated treatment works (POTW). Authorization for discharge is limited to only those outfalls specifically listed in the notice of
discharge requirements.
