2018 RAD Fall Partner Meeting
September 6, 2018
The RAD program held an in-person partner meeting on September 6, 2018. Following an overview of recent and upcoming RAD activities presented by the EPA RAD Program Manager, representatives from AEP Ohio, Baltimore Gas & Electric, Commonwealth Edison, Dayton Power & Light, and PPL Electric Utilities presented best practices on a variety of topics including marketing, partnerships with community organizations and businesses, and community collection events.

Maryland Recycling Network Webinar
July 25, 2018
The RAD Program presented a webinar for the Maryland Recycling Network (MRN) on July 25, 2018 from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. The EPA RAD Program Manager spoke about the concerns over appliance disposal today and how RAD partners help by implementing best practices that go beyond federal requirements to protect Earth’s climate and ozone layer.

MRN/SWANA Mid-Atlantic Conference
June 19-20, 2018
Over 150 solid waste management and recycling professionals met on June 19 and 20 at the Turf Valley Conference Center in Ellicott City, MD. The conference focused on changing waste management and recycling models, commodity markets, policy and regulation, new technologies, and more. The RAD program was an exhibitor at the conference, engaging with prospective partners and raising awareness of best environmental practices for the disposal of refrigerated appliances.

The Northeast Recycling Council (NERC) held their spring 2018 workshop on April 3, 2018 in Linthicum, Maryland. The RAD program was an exhibitor at the conference, engaging with prospective partners and raising awareness of best environmental practices for the disposal of refrigerated appliances.

Becoming RAD Webinar
March 29, 2018
The RAD Program hosted a webinar, Becoming RAD, on March 29, 2018 from 3:00 to 4:00 p.m. The RAD Program Manager opened with a brief introduction to the RAD Program and an overview of the benefits. Following this presentation, RAD utility partners Puget Sound Energy (PSE) and Commonwealth Edison (ComEd) discussed their respective RAD partnerships including how their programs operate, program strategies, and benefits achieved.

RAD Partner Check-in Calls
Spring 2018
In the spring of 2018, the RAD program held check-in calls with RAD partners in lieu of the annual spring partner meeting. The goal of these meetings was for the RAD program to gain a better understanding of RAD partners’ programs and receive direct feedback on the RAD program.

2017 Fall Partner Meeting
October 25, 2017
The RAD program held an in-person partner meeting on October 25, 2017. The partner meeting began with a recap of 2016 partner achievements and an overview of recently completed and upcoming RAD activities. Following the presentation, RAD partners engaged in a group discussion focused on opportunities for partner growth and community engagement.

Eversource, National Grid, and Sears Dehumidifier Collection Event
June 4, 2017
RAD utility partners Eversource and National Grid, along with RAD retailer partner Sears, hosted a collection event on June 4, 2017. The event offered residents an opportunity to drop off old dehumidifiers and receive a $30 rebate with the purchase of a new ENERGY STAR certified dehumidifier.

RAD’s EPA Program Manager participated in the event. As residents turned in their dehumidifiers, the RAD Program Manager briefly explained the positive environmental impacts of their decision to properly recycle their dehumidifiers and distributed a handout to residents with additional information about the environmental benefits of RAD.

BGE AC Unit and Dehumidifier Collection Event
May 20, 2017
RAD partner Baltimore Gas & Electric (BGE) partnered with the Columbia Association, a non-profit community organization of approximately 100,000 residents that offers recreation, cultural, and community services in Columbia, Maryland, for a drop-off event on May 20, 2017. Residents that dropped off old, working room air conditioning units or dehumidifiers received a $25 reward per appliance (limit of $50 per household for 2 units).

Three representatives of the RAD program, including RAD’s EPA Program Manager, participated in the event. As residents’ appliances were transferred to an ARCA truck for transport to the recycling facility, the RAD program representatives thanked participants for deciding to properly recycle their AC units and dehumidifiers and distributed a handout to participants with additional information about the environmental benefits of RAD.

The RAD program representatives spoke to over 50 consumers, increasing their awareness of the RAD program. In addition, the event collected over 80 AC units and dehumidifiers and emphasized BGE’s environmental commitment to the EPA program.

The RAD program held an in-person partner meeting on October 25, 2016. The partner meeting began with a recap of 2015 partner achievements, an overview of recently completed and upcoming RAD activities, and recent domestic and international actions that impact RAD partners. Following the presentation, partners broke out into two roundtable discussion groups. The first discussion group focused on topics related to RAD benefits, marketing, and consumer outreach, while the second discussion group focused on topics related to increasing program growth and enhancing RAD partner benefits.

RAD Non-Energy Benefits (NEBs) Webinar
June 2, 2016
The RAD program hosted a webinar, RAD Non-Energy Benefits (NEBs), on June 2, 2016 from 1:00 to 2:30 p.m. EDT. The webinar featured presentations by RAD utility partner Commonwealth Edison (ComEd), the Cadmus Group (Cadmus), and ICF International (ICF). ComEd opened with a brief presentation on its appliance recycling program; Cadmus presented its latest research on NEBs of appliance recycling programs; and ICF discussed how RAD calculates NEBs for partners.

The webinar was presented by RAD utility partners Puget Sound Energy (PSE) and San Diego Gas & Electric (SDG&E), which discussed their respective multifamily ARPs. Topics covered included program history and design, successes, challenges, and lessons learned.

The webinar discussed trends in foam recovery and highlighted the approach of RAD manufacturer partner General Electric (GE) Appliances, and its appliance recycler ARCA Advanced Processing (AAP).
