Overview
The SmartWay Transport Partnership ("SmartWay") conducts a number of activities every year to ensure the integrity of SmartWay Program data reported to EPA. These ongoing activities range from performing comprehensive reviews and cross-checking of SmartWay Partner data before EPA accepts the data to the use of a partner Excel-based reporting system. This reporting system has rigorous internal data quality assurance controls, including reasonableness checks, and annual data comparison reports.
SmartWay Data Verification Program
To verify the integrity of SmartWay Partner data submissions, EPA invites a sample of SmartWay Partners from a cross-section of freight industries to participate in the data verification interviews. EPA staff visit these partners to observe and record the processes and safeguards they maintain to collect, handle, check, manage, track, and preserve the data they submit to SmartWay. During these visits, EPA visits with key staff involved in data collection and reviews how their data management and quality assurance measures function. EPA also shares its SmartWay data verification best practices with these partners to ensure that they understand SmartWay expectations for ensuring the integrity of their data submission.
EPA is always looking for ways to recognize SmartWay Partners that take the lead in ensuring transportation supply chain data quality. Participating in the data verification program is a way for partners to demonstrate their commitment to data quality.
