Underground Storage Tanks (USTs)

20 Years Of Progress Closing LUST Sites

EPA’s presentation depicts progress each state and territory made in closing leaking UST sites over the 20-year period from 1999 to 2019.  The maps in the presentation display the percentage of sites closed in 5-year intervals, and show that as of 2019, 34 states closed over 90 percent of their leaking UST sites.  Addressing the leaking UST sites remaining to be cleaned up continues to be a high priority for EPA and our state, territorial, and tribal partners.
