Inquire about Visiting EPA through the International Visitors Program

Due to COVID-19, the in person International Visitors Program is suspended until further notice.  Virtual International Visitors meetings are available for request.

EPA's International Visitors Program considers requests for visits to EPA headquarters in Washington, D.C, and at our offices and laboratories throughout the nation.

EPA’s International Regional Coordinators are located throughout EPA’s 10 Regional Offices. They work closely with the Office of International and Tribal Affairs in Washington, D.C. in organizing meetings with international visitors.

How to Inquire about a Visit to EPA Headquarters through the International Visitors Program:

At least six weeks prior to the date of the visit, send a written request by letter or email to the International Visitors Program. This request must include the following information:

  • The proposed date and time of the visit;
  • The name, title, and organizational affiliation of each visitor;
  • A brief biography (C.V.) of each visitor;
  • A list of specific topics which the visitor(s) or delegation would like to discuss with EPA staff;
  • A list of other organizations or agencies being visited while in the United States;
  • Contact information (mailing address, phone number, fax number, and email address) for the visitor or the head of a delegation of multiple visitors.

Please Note:

  1. Appointments are scheduled for a maximum of one day.
  2. The International Visitors Program receives foreign visitors only. Information about temporary or permanent employment, internships, and fellowships is available through the EPA Careers Website.
  3. Delegations may include a maximum of twenty visitors.
  4. EPA reserves the right to decline any visitor request.
  5. All visitors to EPA must show a government-issued photo identification in order to enter the building. We recommend that international visitors bring their passports with them when visiting EPA offices.
  6. All visitors whose names are not provided to the EPA prior to the meeting will not be permitted to attend the meeting.
  7. If the name of the visitor provided to the EPA does not match the name on the visitor’s passport the visitor will not be permitted to attend the meeting.
  8. If the foreign visitor spreadsheet provided to the delegation’s leader or meeting coordinator is not completely filled out and provided to the EPA at least 48 hours in advance, the meeting will be cancelled or postponed.
  9. All cell phones must be turned off during meetings. If a visitor is seen having their phone out to text or take pictures, the visitor will be asked to leave.
  10. Using video cameras or other recording devices inside EPA buildings is prohibited.
  11. Visitors will be escorted by EPA staff at all times.
  12. In order to accommodate all of the requests to host international visitors, the International Visitors Coordinator will often schedule more than one delegation in the same meeting, providing that using multiple interpreters will not interfere with presentations.
  13. Smoking inside EPA buildings is prohibited.
  14. EPA does not permit visits which have not been scheduled by EPA staff.

What The International Visitors Program Does Not Do:

  1. Arrange training or workshops.
  2. Host visitors for appointments extending longer than one day.
  3. Make travel (hotel, airplane, etc.) arrangements, provide travel funds, or issue letters of invitation.
  4. Arrange meetings at agencies or organizations other than EPA.
  5. Arrange additional appointments at EPA once visitors have arrived.
  6. Provide interpreting or translation services.
  7. Schedule or coordinate interpreters, local transportation, or other support services. It is the responsibility of the visitors or of the sponsoring organization to make all necessary arrangements for these services.
