An organophosphate (OP) alternative is a conventional pesticide use that represents a significant alternative to a chemical or chemicals belonging to the organophosphate class of insecticides.

OPs are a group of closely related pesticides used in agriculture and non-agricultural sites that affect functioning of the nervous system. They were among the Agency's first priority group of pesticides to be reviewed under the Food Quality Protection Act.
