Colombia ranks 11th in global coal production – producing nearly 87.3 million tonnes (Mt) in 2014, and is currently the world’s 5th largest exporter of coal. Coal continues to drive the country’s energy sector, with production expected to reach 105 Mt and CMM emissions projected to approach 12.3 million tonnes of carbon dioxide equivalent (MtCO2e) by 2020. An overview of Colombia's coal mining history and current methane recovery and use efforts can be found in the Global Methane Initiative Coal Mine Methane Country Profile: Colombia (April 2015) (PDF) (9 pp, 1.1 MB) Exit
