After cleanup, some Superfund sites remained inaccessible – green fields were fenced off from surrounding communities. Local leaders and recreation enthusiasts were able to see beyond those fences and imagine the potential for ballfields, tennis and basketball courts, soccer fields, golf courses, skate parks and other recreation facilities. Today, many of those facilities are bustling community resources.
