Superfund Site Innovative Reuse Categories: Capped Sites
Caps are often part of cleanups at Superfund sites such as landfills where wastes remain in place. Caps prevent exposure to buried wastes, help with stormwater management and prevent water infiltration. Recent design innovations mean these areas can now support a variety of uses. Infrastructure, including utilities and renewable energy facilities, can be safely placed on top of caps, thanks to new weight distribution systems.
